ARTPIQER's Painting Award 2019

With the ARTPIQER's Painting Award 2019, ARTPIQ honors the painter of tomorrow. The award celebrates painting as a continuously evolving medium with unique diversity, which today perhaps more than ever possesses a polarizing force. We would like to thank all the amazing artists for their entries!

With our renowned jury consisting of Raffaela Zerilli, Wolfram Schnelle, Dana Bergmann, Anna Hagemeier, Dr. Barbara J. Scheuermann, Vanessa Murrell & Martin Mayorga have carefully reviewed all applications and are happy to announce the lucky winner!

ARTPIQER's Painting Award Winner: Dora Celentano

About the Artist:

The winner of this year's award is the Dusseldorf artist and art academy graduate Dora Celentano, who lives and works in Dusseldorf. She impressed the jury with her stringent approach, her painterly play with lightness and depth, as well as the topicality of her work.

Dora herself describes her artistic approach as following:

"My work consists of the analysis motifs which shape our view on beauty and luxury. Often I use picture searching platforms to build up overall patterns as a kind of screen to backup certain windows or taps of paintings. The pictorial flood, and how this influence our way of seeing, is another aspect I'm working with. I show details that develop a special power when taken out of their context and through my interventions. Transferring the image into another medium, from positive to negative and back, leaves traces and mistakes that demand an attentive gaze..."

We are very happy that one of the coolest Co-Working Spaces in Cologne, Wertheim Cologne, will allocate its unique event location Wertheim, a former industrial space, for the award event. Wertheim Cologne is named after the birth place of its founding father, who himself is son to immigrant factory workers. The Wertheim pays homage to hard work, class and spirit. Whether founding spirit, free spirit or beautiful spirit, their house and event location provide a worthy home for joyful working and glowing creativity.

PADA is an artist-led, non-profit arts organization based in Barreiro in Lisbon's South Bay. founded in 2018 by Tim Ralston and Diana Cerezino. Set in a derelict industrial park with history dating back to 1885, PADA offers artists time and space to develop their practice through the exploration of technique and process.

We are very happy that the top-class design firm Vitra is generously supporting the award event with its design classics.
