Machteld Solinger
Based Rotterdam, Netherlands
I am a painter living and working in Rotterdam, graduated from the Royal College of Art, London in 2017. My paintings are both small and large scale, mostly oil on canvas, but also on paper or perspex. What I aim for in my work is to bring across a lucid feeling and a sense for logic through translating and recreating these different shapes and gestures. I want my works to be considerate, yet direct and spontaneous in their appearance. Painting sets something in motion where association, language, composition, colour and material are significantly present. It is about getting into this introvert state of mind, going from outside to inside both physically as mentally. It is about improvising and following a thought process through making. I am always seeking for balance between reacting on the result of painting and wanting to stick to ideas that made me start painting in the first place.
