About

Theresa Gößmann (*1992) is a multidisciplinary artist, designer, illustrator and writer. Graduating form Central Saint Martins in 2018 with a Master of Fine Art, her work was shortlisted for the Tiffany & Co x Studiomakers Award. She has exhibited widely within the UK, Germany, Belgium, China, the US, Costa Rica and more. Theresa’s work is held in private collections all over the world, including the Rauert collection in Hamburg next to works by Brücke artists, Nolde, Picasso and Gauguin. A true believer in the generative force of creative collaboration, Theresa regularily works on collaboartions within artfashion, jewellery and writing. Theresa currently lives and works in Hamburg.

Theresa Goessmann’s work encompasses practices of drawing, painting, ceramics and writing, integrating visible processes of layering, collaging, fragmenting. Her work often brings heterogeneous elements to the surface, inviting reflection on time of production — sometimes as quick as a few spontaneous lines on paper or as long as meticulous writing on a glazed ceramics plate. Through quick brush strokes, impulse writing, scratches, the works appear as a necessity to produce without a purpose, away from the idea that someone will view it on a wall. The apprehension to confront those works often fades with time, when, after being moved away, often hidden, or even discarded, they are rediscovered with a new eye. Sensitivity has appeared on the surface of the work. Theresa’s writing often addresses times of struggle to live as an artist but always comes back to the certitude that she cannot live without making art.”
