Dora Celentano
Original Painting
Year: 2018
Medium: Giclée print on Habotai silk
Unframed: 55 x 55 cm
Education: Kunstakademie Düsseldorf
Artist Info: Dora Celentano is a Düsseldorf-based (half-Italian) painter whose work examines what we consider beautiful and how our eyes are shaped by beauty. Initially educated in communication design, she graduated from Kunstakademie Düsseldorf in 2018 as a Meisterschülerin of Prof. Stefan Kürten. Celentano’s paintings deal with accumulation and collecting – she creates patterned, rhythmic arrangements of heterogeneous elements (often quick, decorative motifs drawn from fashion or advertising) that together form a “perfect world” tableau while also hinting at its absurdity. In 2019 she won ARTPIQ’s Painting Award, which included a solo exhibition “Beyond Painting” at Werthalle in Cologne . Her work’s topicality and playful depth – a blend of lightness and critical perspective – impressed the jury and continues to engage viewers in questioning consumer culture and notions of perfection.
