Gala Bell‍

Original Painting
‍ ‍
Year:             2025

Medium:      Watercolour on somerset velvet

Unframed:  72 x 52 cm

Education:   Royal College of Art

Artist Info: Gala Bell (b. 1989) is a London-based multidisciplinary artist whose practice places the alchemy of matter at its core, moving fluidly between painting and installation. She transforms everyday substances – from sugar and fizzy sweets to deep‑fried canvases – into vivid, gestural artworks that probe ideas of value, taste, hierarchy, consumption and absurd labour. Bell holds an MA in Painting from the Royal College of Art (2016–18) and a First-Class BA (Hons) in Fine Art Painting from City & Guilds of London Art School, where she also completed her Foundation Diploma. Her work has been shown with institutions including The Design Museum, London Design Festival, the Korean Cultural Institute in Berlin, Kunsthalle am Hamburger Platz and Galerie der HBKsaar in Saarbrücken. She has received commissions from BBC One and Tate & Lyle, with a sugar sculpture acquired for the Tate & Lyle archive, and has been shortlisted for the Ashurst Art Prize and selected as a Saatchi Art Rising Star and One to Watch.‍ ‍
