Artist Info: James Tailor is a London-based artist known for transforming everyday materials into playful, sculptural paintings . Originally an interior decorator, he returned to art school in his late twenties – earning a BA at London Metropolitan University and an MFA at Central Saint Martins – and has since developed an experimental mixed-media practice. Tailor’s work often involves assemblage and inventive paint techniques, such as his signature “paint skin” paintings where dried sheets of acrylic paint are peeled out and reapplied as collage elements. In 2017 he received the Helen Scott Lidgett Award (Acme Studios), which provided a funded studio residency and helped launch his exhibiting career. His witty yet abstract works have been featured in publications and exhibitions, recognized for their material innovation and the ambiguity they invite in viewers.
