Artist Info: Lars Kreyßig (b. 1981, Leipzig, Germany) is a Cologne-based artist working in drawing, painting and photography. He studied at the European Film College in Denmark and at the Academy of Media Arts Cologne, graduating with distinction in 2007. His practice centres on minimal line drawings and abstract works built from meticulously repeated dots and lines—some containing hundreds of thousands of individual marks—which he describes as “little sculptures” on paper. In the series Translating the Becher Houses he pays homage to Bernd and Hilla Becher, turning their iconic framework-house photographs into reduced, architectural compositions of lines, angles and patterns. Kreyßig’s photographs have been shown at major art fairs such as Art Cologne and Berliner Liste, and his short films have screened at more than 50 international festivals, including Cannes, earning awards such as the BMW Short Film Award for best German short film.
