Artist Info:
Raen Barnsley works across London and Warwickshire. Her practice is concerned with how the capabilities and aesthetics of contemporary imaging software can portray her dyslexic tendencies. A 2019 MFA graduate of City & Guilds of London Art School, Barnsley’s work spans painting, sculpture, print and installation – creating layered compositions by experimenting with form, colour, and texture. She has exhibited nationally and internationally, and shortly after graduation obtained gallery representation for her sculptural work. Raen won the 2020 Jealous Prize, resulting in her work entering the V&A Museum in London, and her MA degree show installation was shortlisted for multiple awards in 2020 (including Bloomberg New Contemporaries 2017 as an undergraduate). Barnsley’s eerie yet humorous artworks convey unease through a childlike light-heartedness, often addressing cultural amnesia and lost identity with a distinctive mix of digital-inspired imagery and traditional media.
