About

I make paintings that explore the abstract relationship between material and self within formalist painting boundaries. The work is informed by experiences, with markers such as pattern or colour, referencing place, time and emotion. With a focus on the saturation of individual colours and application, I explore the subtle differences in behaviour between the same material with an aim to combine seemingly discordant variations of painterly language.
Performed, repeated and reversed actions build both a unity and division between material and myself which is translated though found and made tools. A calculated yet ungovernable sort of adrenaline navigates me through paintings and the balance between materiality and motive is climacteric for me. Subversive contradictions drive my practice; wet and dry, horizontal and vertical, tool and hand, painting and removing, paint and place.
