This work belongs to my series of ‘Combine Paintings’ - I take this path after Rauschenberg (in his 50s and 60s pieces). He confused the viewer regarding what they saw in front of them when looking at his work. He blurred the boundaries between practices, meanings, symbols etc. He would do things like use a bed frame as a stretcher and hang it vertically on the wall. Similarly, I love to investigate the reality in this way, sometimes connecting art and life.
The ‘space’ between figurative or recognisable forms and images I see in actual reality, and those I ‘see’ internally in my imagination, takes particular importance in my practice, and life. That ‘space’ is a very obscure and abstract dance between the two realities, similar to an ‘eidos’ of something. The more actual form of it, the more (and less, at the same time), precise one is a painting that I would make. It is a victory and a failure at the same time.
